The front half of the remaining rear flange had rusted in half. The ensuing vibrations fucked with the other connections, so I have some band clamps to replace 4 of the U clamps. The $8 fix has now become a $55 fix. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

Ugh. I know. I'm getting under my hood after work to replace the bolt I broke on Tuesday, put the belt back on and hope it all works right.

And of course the band clamps won't work on the rear-mid pipe because of the stupid fucking jog over bends. I can hopefully use them fore and aft of the cats. Now I have to try to find some other clamps to work on the rear-mids. Yay me!

That's annoying. Hope that's all it is.

Band clamps worked perfectly for the cats. Had to order in three other clamps, will get them on tomorrow.

Grew a little bit more costly, had to get three other clamps, but should be good tomorrow.

Could be worse!
Haven't found an alternator bolt yet...

Go to a Lowes, figure out what thread it is, measure how long it needs to be and buy what you need.
Or go to a BMW dealer and buy it, it should not be as bad as you think.

Nope. Went to Lowes, Home Depot, Ace, three auto parts stores. No 6" M10x1.5 bolts. Today I can go to Fastenal, though, they have everything.

If they don't got it, they'll make it.
They made the Grade 8 bolts for my Pinto's lower control arms.

They didn't have the right pitch to make them either. Just no selection in M10 above about 4-5". Doesn't matter what grade.

any time you can fix something on a BMW for under $100, you win.

Have you gone to the dealer?
![]() 12/26/2013 at 16:21 |

No that's quite a bit further away, and I don't like them. I just decided to wait until I get back home today, Fastenal should be open and they weren't for the last two days.

It really helps to not use BMW parts.

very true. Bavarian Auto has supplied me with many fine non-OE parts over the years and I'm sure saved me thousands.

The only time I've had to go to the dealer, it was for things I needed ASAP.

Yep that's the bolt. Except I think it's closer to 150mm. And Summit isn't close to me either.

the same boat - we are in it

Fastenal should be able to make it for you.

Yup, I sure hope so. Otherwise Amazon will have me one tomorrow.
